Cairo, Aug. 12 (SANA)Egyptian Foreign MinisterBadr Abdelattyheld separate phone calls with his British and Bahraini counterparts on Tuesday, focusing on efforts to easeregional tensions, maintain freedom of navigation and strengthen security and stability.

In talks with British Foreign SecretaryDavid Miliband, Abdelatty stressed the importance of diplomacy and dialogue, with both sides urging parties in the region to continue negotiations and avoid further military escalation, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said.

The ministers warned that further escalation could have repercussions for regional stability, energy security, freedom of navigation, global supply chains and international trade. They also agreed to maintain consultations and coordination on regional developments.

Turning to Gaza, the two ministers called for implementation of commitments under the U.S. president’s peace plan. Abdelatty condemned Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, saying they undermine prospects for regional security and stability as well as the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The ministers also discussed Sudan, with Abdelatty outlining Egypt’s efforts to contain the crisis and reaffirming Cairo’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions.

He called for intensified international efforts to ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need and to launch an inclusive Sudanese-led political process.

In a separate call with Bahraini Foreign MinisterAbdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Abdelatty emphasized the need to contain regional tensions and prioritize political and diplomatic solutions.

The two ministers also stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom and safety of navigation through international waterways and protecting global shipping and trade in accordance with international law.

The talks come amid heightened regional tensions and growing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and protect key international shipping routes.
