Trump confirms secret plane switch in Türkiye over security threat
Washington, Aug. 12 (SANA)U.S. PresidentDonald Trumpconfirmed on Wednesday that he secretly switched aircraft in Türkiye last month on the advice of theU.S. Secret Service, saying he believed the alternative plane may have faced a greater security risk thanAir Force One.
“I actually think the plane I took was in greater danger … because that’s the plane that I think they probably would have targeted,” Reuters quoted Trump as telling reporters.
“I think there was some threat. I didn’t ask too much about it. I get a lot of threats,” Trump said.
The U.S. president said he left security decisions to the Secret Service and followed instructions from the agency and the military.
U.S. media reported that Trump was moved from Air Force One to a military aircraft after a NATO summit in Ankara, with the transfer carried out using a food-service truck as part of an unusual security operation prompted by a reported Iranian threat to assassinate him.
The White House did not disclose the aircraft switch at the time, and details of the operation remained secret until the Washington Post first reported them on Monday.
