Muscat, Aug. 12 (SANA)OmandenouncedColombia’s recognition of what it called “Israeli sovereignty” over theoccupied Syrian Golanon Wednesday, saying the move violates international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The Omani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on X that the Sultanate reaffirmed its position that the Golan is occupied Syrian territory and reiterated its support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Oman called on all countries to respect the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly UNSecurity CouncilResolution 497 of 1981.

Colombia’s decision has drawn widespread Arab and international condemnation, with several countries rejecting any change to the legal status of the occupied Syrian Golan.

Syria has categorically rejected and condemned Colombia’s position, stressing that the Golan is an integral part of Syrian territory and describing the Colombian government’s stance as a flagrant violation of the UN Charter.

The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 497 in December 1981, declaring Israel’s decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan “null and void and without international legal effect” and demanding that Israel rescind the measure.
