Gestión turística impulsa alzas en número de visitantes, ocupación hotelera, realización de eventos internacionales y generación de empleos
Increases in the arrival of visitors, in hotel occupancy, in the holding of congresses and conventions, and in the attraction of tourists to the interior of the country, have been achievements of the administration of President José Raúl Mulino in his first two years of government, reported the administrator of the Tourism Authority of Panama, Gloria De León Zubieta.
Through coordinated actions between the ATP and PROMTUR, in the first half of this year, one million 755 thousand 998 visitors have entered Panama, a figure 22% higher than the arrival of visits in 2024, said De León. This growth meant a contribution to the country of 3,721 million balboas during the current year, which is 21% more than what was generated by the tourism sector in 2024.
The economic impact served to boost the labor market in the sector, reaching 440,700 jobs, both direct and indirect, 12% higher than total jobs in 2024.
De León also detailed that in the first half of 2024, a hotel occupancy rate of 52.2% was recorded in Panama. Now, in the first half of 2026, this line has risen to 66%, which represents a 13.8% increase. On the other hand, 131 international congresses and conventions have been held in Panama during 2026, which is a figure 82% higher than the 72 events of this type that occurred within the country during 2024.
Through the Panama Stopover program of the Panamanian airline Copa, 132,787 passengers have arrived in the country so far this year. This number exceeds by 66% the number of passengers who arrived during the first half of 2024; a total of 79,770.
In terms of connectivity, an agreement was reached with the airline Wingo to begin direct trips that now connect the Río Hato airport with Bogotá, Colombia and with Aeroregional from Quito, Ecuador. These operations will represent an increase of 12,600 tourists and an economic impact estimated at 10 million balboas.
“More visitors are generating more income for the country, and above all more jobs for Panamanians,” De León stressed.

De León detalló también que en el primer semestre del año 2024 se registraba en Panamá una ocupación hotelera del 52.2%. Ahora, en el primer semestre del año 2026, este renglón ha subido a 66%, lo que representa un 13.8% de incremento.Por otra parte, en Panamá se han realizado 131 congresos y convenciones internacionales durante el año 2026, lo que es una cifra 82% superior a los 72 eventos de este tipo que ocurrieron dentro del país durante el 2024.
