Vote UPND to Safeguard Peace, Development — President Hichilema
President Hakainde Hichilema has called on Zambians to safeguard the nation’s peace, economic progress, and democratic freedoms by re-electing the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) in Thursday’s General Election.
Addressing thousands of enthusiastic supporters during public engagements in Lusaka District, President Hichilema outlined his administration’s developmental record over the past five years, stating that the UPND government has executed more high-impact infrastructure and social transformation projects than previous regimes.
The Head of State emphasised that the upcoming election is fundamentally about preserving Zambia’s trajectory of stability, unity, and continuous development.
Highlighting key achievements in the social sector, President Hichilema pointed to the successful rollout of the free education policy, which has enabled more than 2.5 million out-of-school children to resume their studies.
He noted that to support this educational influx and improve healthcare delivery nationwide, the government recruited 45,000 teachers and 20,000 health workers. Building on this momentum, the President announced that additional teachers and nurses will be employed before the end of the year, with direct instructions issued to absorb volunteer teachers and medical personnel who were present at the community engagements.
President Hichilema further announced a direct policy directive ensuring that all eligible residents in Kabwata and Chawama are immediately enrolled on the expanded Social Cash Transfer (SCT) Programme. To keep pace with rapid urban demographic growth, he pledged the construction of new primary and secondary schools as well as additional modern health facilities across constituencies in Lusaka District.
Dismissing assertions from opposition groups regarding power stability, President Hichilema assured voters that load-shedding will not return post-election. He cited significant strategic investments directed into solar energy and alternative power generation nationwide, which he affirmed will guarantee a stable, diversified, and resilient national grid. He cautioned citizens against believing deceptive campaign narratives.
The President urged citizens to firmly reject any resurgence of political cadreism and violence, calling on voters to use their democratic mandate to protect national cohesion.
