Mitur cierra con éxito festival gastronómico “Saborea el Paraíso”, en Sánchez, Samaná
Sánchez, Samaná.–The Ministry of Tourism successfully concluded the “Taste the Paradise” festival, where national and international tourists enjoyed the best gastronomy in the city of shrimp.
During the days of exhibitions, attendees enjoyed a complete program of gastronomic and cultural offerings, tastings and sales of seafood dishes such as “BocaitoSanchero” and “Ceviche Mango y Mar”.
Exhibitors in their different stands offered “Seafood cocktail”, “Seafood snack”, “Breaded, steamed, ginger and garlic shrimp”, “Shrimp sheet cake”; as well as fish, moro and white rice with coconut, traditional Creole food dishes, various drinks, products made from coconut, among others.
Sánchez, known as the gateway to the Samaná peninsula, and the shrimp capital, stands out for its Victorian architecture, its railway history and being the starting point to Los Haitises National Park. In addition to the great ecotourism potential, in seafood gastronomy and the enhancement of its cultural and historical heritage.
The activity seeks to boost the local economy and highlight the close relationship that, for generations, this coastal municipality has maintained with the sea and fishing.
Carlos Peguero, vice minister of International Cooperation of Mitur, valued the importance of promoting Sánchez both for its historical and natural wealth and for being recognized as “the capital of shrimp.”
He explained that “Taste Paradise”, as part of a Mitur promotional strategy, is the sample to turn this coastal town into a world-class destination for its historical and natural wealth and infrastructure.
Peguero predicted a great future for the municipality of Sánchez, which, together with the Arroyo Barril port, which will be inaugurated soon, will turn it into an important tourist destination with the arrival of cruise passengers as shown by the Cabo Rojo port in Pedernales where this year it will exceed 270,000 cruise passengers.
During the event, a contest was held where visitors, using a QR code, chose the dish of their preference based on their experience, resulting in the winner being Anabel Coplin, from FoodYummy, with her proposal “La Paila Costera”, who will represent the country at the Anato fair, in Colombia.
All the dishes that were exhibited will be included in a recipe book that will be prepared and published with Sánchez's gastronomy.
The governor of the Samaná province, Teodora Mullix, highlighted the Sánchez shrimp as a brand of international gastronomy, for which Mitury thanks Minister David Collado for relaunching the festival, suspended for a few years and which will be the impetus for the rebirth of this jewel as a fishing town for centuries.
He expressed that the rescue of this tradition of enormous importance for Creole gastronomy and Sánchez's drive will continue to receive the support of his authorities and municipalities.
Ynocencio de Jesús Calcaño, municipal mayor, trusted in the prosperity and economic dynamism given the potential of this town and the hospitality of its hard-working and big-hearted people.
The esplanade of the emblematic and historic pier of the municipality was the place chosen for an entire town to dance merengue, bachata, salsa, and enjoy the color that the Folkloric Ballet always offers, a typical ensemble and the Santo Domingo del Mitur Group.
On stage, the group Sonido Latino, Los Hijos de Casandra, the music academy of Professor Ángel de Jesús, a sample of the carnival “Los Pelícanos de la Bahía” and AlaJazá gave all of their musical repertoires.
With a spectacular closing with the best of our Caribbean music by Chiquito Team Band and Joe Verás, “Saborea el Paraíso” brought together thousands of Sancheros in two days of pure cultural and gastronomic celebration.
