Arab states condemn Colombia’s recognition of “Israeli sovereignty” over Syrian Golan
Capitals, August 11 (SANA)Arab condemnations continued on Tuesday over a statement issued by Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 10, 2026, recognizing what it called “Israeli sovereignty” over theoccupied Syrian Golan.
Qatar condemned the Colombian statement, stressing, in a statement published by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the “X” platform, that assisting the Israeli occupation in disregarding relevant UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, would not alter the facts on the ground.
The ministry affirmed that Israel’s imposition of its laws, jurisdiction and administration over the occupied Syrian Golan is null and void and has no legal effect.
TheQatari Foreign Ministrystressed the need for the Israeli occupation to comply with international legitimacy resolutions calling for withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories, while warning against any unilateral decisions recognizing the occupation’s sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan.
Jordanalso condemned the Colombian recognition, affirming that it contradicts international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
In a statement posted on the “X” platform, Jordan’s Foreign Ministry stressed that the occupied Syrian Golan is an integral part of Syrian territory under international law and Security Council Resolution 497.
The ministry also condemned the continued Israeli attacks and incursions into Syrian territory, reaffirming its support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity, and calling on the international community to compel Israel to halt and end the occupation.
for its part,Egyptcondemned the Colombian statement regarding the occupied Syrian Golan, expressing its categorical rejection of the decision as a violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, as well as an infringement on the legitimate and established rights of the Syrian Arab Republic over its entire territory.
Egypt stressed the necessity of Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan, affirming that all measures and decisions aimed at entrenching the Israeli occupation or granting legitimacy to the annexation of the Golan have no legal effect and do not alter its legal status.
It also reiterated its firm support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and its right to the occupied Syrian Golan, stressing the need to respect the principles of international law and the UN Charter and refrain from steps that would entrench occupation or undermine the foundations of security, stability, and peace in the region.
For his part, Arab League Secretary-General AhmedAboul Gheitexpressed his rejection of the Colombian statement, saying the declaration has no legal effect and carries no value in determining the status of the occupied Syrian Golan or sovereignty over it. He affirmed that the Golan remains occupied Syrian territory under international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
Aboul Gheit stressed that sovereignty over territories cannot be acquired through occupation and cannot be established by a political position taken by one state or another, noting that the legal status of the occupied Syrian Golan is too firmly established to be affected by changes in governments or their political orientations.
He called on the Colombian government to withdraw the declaration and correct its position in line with international law, UN resolutions, and the established international reference regarding the status of the occupied Syrian Golan.
