President Hichilema Promises Extension of Student Bursaries and Meal Allowances to Private Universities
President Hakainde Hichilema has announced plans to extend government bursaries and meal allowances to students enrolled in private universities, saying state support must reach every learner regardless of institution.
Speaking at State House before thousands of students gathered to appreciate existing interventions such as free education, restored meal allowances, and higher housing subsidies, the Head of State stressed that all young Zambians deserve equal financial backing from their government.
He noted, however, that scaling these initiatives to private institutions depends on his administration securing another mandate. Urging the youth to support his re‑election bid, President Hichilema outlined a broader vision for education and youth empowerment in the next term.
He pledged to strengthen structured internship programmes linking graduates with employers, reform the curriculum to foster entrepreneurship, and expand technical skills training nationwide. To fund these ambitious packages and drive long‑term employment, the President pointed to ongoing economic reforms, including debt restructuring and aggressive efforts to attract foreign investment.
