The parties explored opportunities to expand cooperation in transport and energy, and to deepen trade, investment, cultural, and humanitarian relations between Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Andijan region.

Mr. Tuniyaz highlighted that active contacts with top and senior officials significantly enhance political dialogue, foster new ideas, and promote joint initiatives. He also mentioned that his planned visit to Uzbekistan in 2024 and meetings with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will lay the groundwork for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, transport, agriculture, and education.

Mr. Vakhabov highlighted the substantial potential to boost mutual trade between Uzbekistan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. He emphasized diversifying the commodity structure, advancing industrial cooperation, and expanding the use of dry ports, logistics centers, and cross-border infrastructure.

Special focus was given to Xinjiang’s geographical importance as a key link between China and Central Asia. It is the sole region in China bordering three Central Asian nations – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Approximately 40 percent of China’s total trade with these countries goes through Xinjiang, highlighting its crucial role in fostering trade and economic connections.

A different focus of the meeting was discussing how the China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan railway could enhance regional connectivity. Once operational, this route, originating in Kashgar and reaching Andijan region, will link China directly to Uzbekistan’s rail system and open new freight transport options across Central Asia to Europe, Türkiye, and Middle Eastern countries.

The parties also supported increasing collaboration between higher education institutions in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Uzbekistan, focusing on training specialists in high-demand areas and launching joint educational programs.

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their interest in strengthening the partnership between Uzbekistan and Xinjiang, especially by emphasizing the Andijan region’s role as a key hub connecting Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region with other regions of Uzbekistan.
