Friendship Park in the center of Addis Ababa is one of the first multi-purpose public facilities built by the government in the last eight years. ‎ This park has generated an income of about one billion birr in the last four years alone, and has directly and indirectly created job opportunities and economic benefits. Above all, it has become a meeting place for citizens and visitors from different walks of life. From families and children, sports teams and wedding attendees to digital content creators, as well as local and international visitors, there are many in attendance. Apart from its economic value, Friendship Park is providing a great service for health, fitness, recreation and social connection. This is proof of how well-planned public facilities can connect people while contributing to the overall urban development of Addis Ababa. ‎ This park is a precedent for similar public facilities being built in the city as well as other cities. These new places are centers that create value, facilitate opportunities and most importantly, ensure Ethiopian ownership.
