Beijing, Aug. 10 (SANA)Typhoon Dolphin has forced the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people in easternChina, as heavy rains and floods prompted authorities in Fujian and Shanghai to move residents from high-risk areas, according to Xinhua.

As of 7:00 a.m. Monday, approximately 167,900 people had been relocated from land and sea areas in Fujian, while Shanghai evacuated about 215,600 late Sunday.

The storm has caused widespread transport and tourism disruptions. In Fujian, authorities suspended 686 passenger bus routes and 658 train services, closed 234 tourist sites, and canceled dozens of cultural and tourism events, Xinhua reported.

In Shanghai, Legoland Shanghai Resort was temporarily closed as heavy rain hit the city. Authorities issued the highest rainstorm alert and warned of possible urban flooding.

Storm weakening but risks remain

Heavy rain is expected to continue Monday in parts of Fujian, including Ningde and Nanping, with some areas facing torrential downpours.

Typhoon Dolphin, the 13th to hit China this year, made landfall twice in Zhejiang on Sunday, according to the National Meteorological Center. The storm has weakened since reaching land, but forecasters warn that the risk of flash floods and landslides remains high in vulnerable areas.

China’s eastern coastal provinces are frequently hit by typhoons during the summer and autumn months. This year’s typhoon season has been particularly active, with Dolphin following a series of storms that have already caused significant damage and displacement across the region.

Authorities have maintained emergency response measures, with disaster relief teams on standby and rescue operations continuing in the hardest-hit areas.
