Zelenskyy urges global action over North Korea’s role in Ukraine war
Kyiv, Aug. 10 (SANA)Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyycalled for coordinated international action to prevent North Korea from using the war in Ukraine to test weapons and acquire combat experience.
In a video address, Zelensky said Russia was preparing to deploy an additional contingent of North Korean troops on its territory and had received more ballistic missiles from Pyongyang.
He warned that North Korea was improving its missiles and other weapons through cooperation with Russia and by observing their use on the battlefield.
The more North Korean troops and weapons are deployed in the conflict, Zelensky argued, the greater the future security threat will be to countries including South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.
He urged the international community to strengthen coordination and mutual support, including the provision of additional air-defence systems to Ukraine. Such assistance would also discourage Pyongyang from expanding its military involvement and testing its capabilities under combat conditions, he said.
He previously said Russia was seeking to recruit another 30,000 North Korean troops, according to Ukrinform. Ukraine also recently reported preliminary evidence that Russia used a North Korean ballistic missile in an attack on Radushne.
