Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi Hosts the Chairman and Members of the Parliamentary Finance Committee to Discuss Financial and Economic Policies ••••• Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi hosted today, Monday, the Chairman and members of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, in the presence of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, to discuss financial and economic plans and policies, as well as coordination between the executive and legislative authorities on priority issues. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the role of the Council of Representatives and the Finance Committee in supporting the government’s work and its reform program. He referred to the heavy legacy of issues and challenges inherited by the government, which it is working to address in accordance with a clear vision. He noted that, for the first time, the government has begun preparing a program and performance budget, which represents a roadmap for Iraq’s economic future by linking government spending to objectives and outcomes and improving the efficiency of the use of public funds. The Prime Minister affirmed that the electricity sector will receive exceptional attention. He called on members of the Council of Representatives to exercise their oversight role in supporting the government’s efforts to combat corruption and eliminate its sources, stressing that there are no red lines when it comes to pursuing corrupt individuals. Prime Minister Al-Zaidi explained that the government is working to develop a state-building strategy aimed at building a new economic Iraq, government departments free of corruption, and constitutional security institutions. He noted the strong interest among major international companies in investing in Iraq and the readiness of international financial institutions to support the country economically. He affirmed that the government is working to provide an appropriate environment to attract investment and stimulate various economic sectors. The Prime Minister directed that a schedule be prepared for hearings and regular meetings with parliamentary committees, in a manner that strengthens institutional coordination and communication between the government and the Council of Representatives. For his part, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee affirmed his full support for the government. The Committee members also presented several proposals for enacting the legislation necessary to stimulate non-oil economic activities and support the government’s efforts in economic reform and combating corruption.
