La Altagracia concentra más de 215,000 cabezas de ganado y lidera producción de carne y leche
La Altagracia.- This province concentrates more than 215,000 heads of cattle and has established itself as the main meat and milk producing province of the Dominican Republic, said the Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme, who highlighted the leadership of the cattle farmers of the Este region and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to strengthening animal health, technical assistance, genetic improvement and innovation to increase the productivity and profitability of the sector.
As part of the support for livestock activity, during the event a modern packing house was delivered to the Nisibón Livestock Farmers Association (Agani), infrastructure that will contribute to strengthening the capacities of producers and adding value to the area's production.
When inaugurating the XXXV Agricultural Fair of the Eastern Region, organized by Agani, the official highlighted that livestock activity constitutes one of the main economic drivers of this area, due to its contribution to the production of meat and milk, the generation of jobs and economic movement.
During the event, held at the Agani facilities, in La Otra Banda, Higüey, Espaillat Bencosme highlighted the 57 years of history of this organization, founded in 1969, and its transformation into a benchmark for national livestock farming, with a membership that exceeds 1,000 producers and representation in La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, La Romana and Monte Plata.
"Today we are not just inaugurating a fair. Today we celebrate a history of work, perseverance and vision that for 57 years has turned Agani into one of the great references of national livestock farming," he expressed.
The minister stated that the Government will continue to support producers by strengthening veterinary services and animal health, technical assistance, genetic improvement, access to financing and technological innovation.
“I want every rancher who accompanies us today to be certain of one thing: the Ministry of Agriculture is and will continue to be a permanent ally of national production,” he stated.
The president of Agani, Pedro Castillo, highlighted the contributions and work that the Minister of Agriculture has been doing in favor of the livestock sector, while valuing the Government's support for producers in the region.
Castillo highlighted that the support of the Ministry of Agriculture has been essential to address the needs of ranchers and advance actions that allow strengthening production, improving productivity and generating better conditions for those who work in the field.
Likewise, he valued the delivery of the packing house as a work that represents important support for producers and will allow the infrastructure and capabilities of Agani to be strengthened, for the benefit of livestock activity in the area.
The president of Agani also highlighted the history of the organization and the growth of the fair, which he defined as a fundamental space to promote livestock farming, exhibit the progress made by producers and promote commercial and technological exchange.
Espaillat Bencosmecongratulated the board and members of Agani for maintaining for 57 years an institution that constitutes a benchmark of organization, leadership and commitment to national production.
The fair will last until August 16 and brings together more than 530 cattle from different provinces of the country.
The program includes dairy contests, Higüeyan Steps competitions, high genetic auctions, judging, family activities, popular games, special competitions and artistic presentations.
