Dieciocho productores de la región Norte reciben más de RD 15 millones para tecnificar sus predios
Valverde.-Eighteen agricultural producers from the Northern region received bonus certificates for an amount greater than RD 15,000,000, granted by the Executive Directorate of National Irrigation Technique (TNR), through the Fund for the Promotion of the Technification of the National Irrigation System (Fotesir), as part of the call that began last January.
During the delivery ceremony, the director of the TNR, Claudio Caamaño Vélez, highlighted that this initiative represents a significant advance in the process of modernization of national agriculture.
“This delivery not only formally recognizes the benefited producers, but also constitutes a decisive step towards the modernization of irrigation in the area, so that it is more profitable, sustainable and competitive,” said Caamaño Vélez.
The official pointed out that the modernization of irrigation contributes to optimizing the use of water resources, increasing the productivity of crops and strengthening the response capacity of the agricultural sector to the challenges associated with climate change.
The Fotesir calls and the Bagri-Riego program, an initiative developed together with the Agricultural Bank (Bagrícola), have made it possible to reduce the installation costs of irrigation systems by more than half and speed up project execution times for the benefited producers.
The bonuses granted will allow farmers to incorporate advanced irrigation technologies, optimize water use, reduce production costs and increase the competitiveness of their farms. It also includes specialized technical assistance, permanent support and training processes aimed at guaranteeing the sustainability of the investments made.
With this sixth bonus, the number of non-refundable bonus certificates granted to producers in the provinces of San Juan (30), Azua (36), Bahoruco and Independencia (17), as well as Valverde-Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón-Montecristi (7), reaches 108, for an investment of more than RD 60 million destined to promote irrigation technology projects in these districts.
The TNR reaffirms its commitment to continue strengthening policies and initiatives that contribute to the efficient use of water, the strengthening of agricultural production and the sustainable development of the Dominican countryside.
