Beirut, Aug. 10 (SANA)Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Monday called for activating the Lebanese-Syrian Business Council to boosttrade, investment and transit through Syria, as Beirut and Damascus seek to deepen post-war economic cooperation.

Salam made the remarks during a meeting with former minister and head of economic bodies Mohammad Shqeir, Lebanese-Syrian Business Council head Khalil al-Arab, and a delegation of council members, in the presence of Economy and Trade Minister Amer Bisat.

He said strengthening cooperation in transport and energy would open new opportunities for the private sector and benefit both economies.

Talks centered on removing barriers facing the private sector and enhancing trade andinvestmentties between the two countries, according to a statement on the prime minister’s office X account.

Shqeir presented Salam with a document outlining priority steps the business council believes are needed to advance bilateraleconomic cooperationand facilitate trade and investment.

The meeting builds on a recent push to strengthen Lebanese-Syrian economic ties, particularly in trade, transport, transit and energy. On Aug. 3, the business council held an expanded meeting in Beirut to discuss the outcomes of a Lebanese economic delegation’s visit to Damascus and agreed on practical steps to expand cooperation and investment.
