Damascus, Aug. 9 (SANA)Attorney General of the Syrian Arab Republic, Counselor Hassan al-Turba, met on Sunday with Stephan Sakalian, Head of theInternational Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC) delegation in Syria, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the Justice Ministry and the ICRC in the fields ofinternational humanitarian lawand the detention file.

The ICRC delegation provided a briefing on its humanitarian operations in Syria, covering detention monitoring, civilian protection, support for communities affected by the war, and ongoing efforts to assist families ofmissing persons.

In May 2026, the ICRC welcomed Syria’s accession to the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law, describing it as highly significant for the path to recovery andpeace, and complementing growing cooperation between Syria and the ICRC on a number of important files.
