Aleppo, Aug. 9 (SANA)A magnitude 4.3earthquakestrucksouthern Türkiyenear theSyrian borderearly on Sunday and was felt by residents in parts of northern Syria, Syria’s National Earthquake Center said.

The center said its monitoring stations recorded the quake at 3:42 a.m., with its epicenter about 107 kilometersnorthwest of Aleppo. It said the earthquake occurred along theDead SeaFault system.

Türkiye’s earthquakemonitoring authorities measured the quake at magnitude 4.5 and located its epicenter in Gaziantep province, at a depth of 7.44 kilometers. No casualties or material damage were immediately reported.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) placed the epicenter at 37.132 degrees north and 36.904 degrees east, at a depth of about 7 kilometers. It said the epicenter was about 43 kilometers west ofGaziantepand 15 kilometers east of Nurdağı.

Northern and northwestern Syria experience recurrentseismic activitydue to the region’s tectonic setting, with low- to moderate-magnitude earthquakes regularly recorded and occasionally felt by residents.

The Dead Sea Fault is one of the region’s major fault systems, extending through parts of the Levant and linked to tectonic activity caused by the movement of Earth’s plates.
