Damascus, Aug.9 (SANA)General Secretariat of Presidency ofthe Republicissued on Sunday decision No. 1001 appointing Dr. Hani Zeidan as deputy director general of the Atomic Energy Commission of Syria (AECS).

TheAtomic Energy Commission of Syriais the government body responsible for atomic energy affairs and its peaceful applications, as well as establishing the rules and regulations governing its use.

AECS also serves as the specialized regulatory authority overseeing radiation-related activities and nuclear safety and security, and is responsible for monitoring all radiation activities in Syria.
