Abu Dhabi/Cairo, Aug. 9 (SANA)Arab foreign ministers held a series of phone calls focused on regional tensions and efforts to prevent further escalation, with officials from theUnited Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Egypt and Iraq stressing dialogue and diplomatic coordination.

UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed regional developments with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, according to a statement from the UAE Foreign Ministry.

During the call, Al-Sabah strongly condemned an Iranian missile attack on a tanker belonging to UAE energy company ADNOC as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz. No injuries were reported.

TheKuwaiti minister reaffirmed his country’s full solidarity with the UAE and its support for measures taken by Abu Dhabi to safeguard its sovereignty, security and interests.

The tanker was targeted earlier on Saturday amid heightened regional tensions and growing risks to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a separate phone call, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed regional and international developments and efforts to contain escalation, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said.

The two ministers exchanged views on regional developments and future security arrangements, stressing the need for joint action to reduce tensions and resolve crises through dialogue and political and diplomatic means.

They also discussed strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation betweenEgyptand Iraq, as well as maintaining coordination on regional issues of mutual interest.

Abdelatty and Hussein reaffirmed support for the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Egypt,Iraqand Jordan, describing it as a framework for strengthening regional integration and making greater use of the three countries’ economic and human resources.

The diplomatic contacts come amid intensified regional and international efforts to contain tensions in the Middle East and prevent a broader escalation.
