Security personnel injured in Colombia bombing during presidential inauguration

Bogota, Aug. 9 (SANA)Several security personnel were injured on Sunday when armed assailants bombed a toll station under construction near theColombiancity of Cali, as the country’s new president, Abelardo de la Espriella, was inaugurated.

The Colombian military said the attack occurred in the municipality of Santander de Quilichao and left severalsecurity personnelwith minor injuries, according to Agence France-Presse.

De la Espriella condemned the bombing, saying attacks on the country’s infrastructure threatened the progress, mobility and security of millions of Colombians.

He vowed there would be “no safe haven, leniency or impunity” for those responsible and pledged to intensify operations against armed groups and drug traffickers.

Colombia continues to face security challenges from armed groups, including dissident factions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that rejected a 2016 peace agreement with the government.
