Three killed in Ukrainian drone attack on Belgorod as Russia strikes Odesa

Moscow, Aug. 9 (SANA)Three people were killed and 25 others injured in an overnightUkrainian droneattack on the Russian city of Belgorod, whileRussian strikesdamaged the Ukrainian port of Odesa and injured eight people, authorities on both sides said on Sunday.

Alexander Shuvayev, acting governor of Russia’sBelgorodregion, said the Ukrainian attack sparked fires in two residential buildings, which were later extinguished by emergency crews. A number of residential and non-residential buildings were also damaged.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defenses destroyed more than 150 Ukrainian drones over European Russia, Crimea, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

In Novorossiysk, a major RussianBlack Sea port, Mayor Alexander Kravchenko said debris from downed drones fell on two facilities in the city, without identifying them.

Russian state news agency RIA, citing local emergency services, also reported that a Ukrainian drone struck a building under construction and a crane in Ufa, in Russia’s Bashkortostan region.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces had taken control of the settlements of Vasyutynske and Toretske in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

On the Ukrainian side, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Black Sea port ofOdesawas hit in an overnight Russian attack, causing damage and injuring eight people in the city.

Zelenskyy accused Russia of targeting global food security. Odesa’s ports serve as a key route for Ukraine’s agricultural exports.

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said Russian forces also targeted electricity infrastructure in the Odesa region, causing power outages that affected a large number of residents in the coastal city.

The ministry said electricity had since been restored to about 90,000 consumers.kA.ABD
