Vicepresidenta Raquel Peña entrega techado de la Escuela Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez, en Azua
Azua.–The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, handed over this Saturday the roof of the Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez Initial and Basic School, in the community of Guayacanal, Pueblo Viejo municipality, Azua province, a work that will benefit 349 students and strengthen the conditions for the development of sports, cultural, recreational and community activities.
The work is part of the actions carried out by the government of President Luis Abinader to continue improving the educational infrastructure and offer students adequate spaces to learn and develop.
The infrastructure, executed by the Directorate of School Infrastructure (DIE), under the direction of engineer Roberto Herrera, had an investment of more than RD 38 million and provides the educational center with a covered and safe space for carrying out activities throughout the year.
During the event, the Vice Minister of Supervision and Control of Educational Quality, Óscar Amargós, representing the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, highlighted that school infrastructure is not a luxury, but a basic condition to guarantee the right to education and provide students with decent and adequate spaces for their comprehensive development.
Vice Minister Amargós indicated that the work responds to the Government's commitment to improve school infrastructure and guarantee decent spaces for the comprehensive training of students.
Likewise, he explained that the Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez School currently serves 349 students at the initial and primary levels, and pointed out that, before the construction of the roof, the campus did not have a covered space for sports, cultural and school activities.
"This work is not just a roof. It is a declaration that children in the south of the country also count," said the vice minister, highlighting that school infrastructure constitutes a fundamental condition to guarantee quality education.
Likewise, he highlighted the importance that the new space can be integrated into the inter-ministerial Open and Active School strategy, which promotes the opening of public educational centers during weekends to develop sports, cultural, recreational and citizen training activities.
"A roof like the one we inaugurated today is not only infrastructure for school activities; it is the physical condition that makes it possible for Escuela Abierta y Activa to reach Guayacanal," he stated.
The official urged the educational community and families to take care of and take advantage of the work, considering that the public school constitutes a heritage of the entire community.
Wanda Isabel Santana Vásquez, representing the students, expressed that this is a special day for Guayacanal, having a new space where they can develop their talents, practice sports and strengthen values.
He urged his teammates to take care of the field and take advantage of it responsibly, to keep the name of the Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez School high.
Father Rafael Cuello, from the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes parish, raised an emotional prayer of blessing for the new work, asking God to protect the students, teachers, families and the entire community of Guayacanal that will make use of this space for sports, education, culture and healthy coexistence.

Asimismo, explicó que laEscuela Javier Antonio Castillo Pérezatiende actualmente a 349 estudiantes de losniveles inicial y primario, y señaló que, antes de la construcción del techado, el plantel no contaba con un espacio cubierto para actividades deportivas, culturales y escolares. “Esta obra no es solo un techo. Es una declaración de que los niños del sur del país también cuentan”,expresó el viceministro, al resaltar que la infraestructura escolar constituye una condición fundamental paragarantizar una educación de calidad. Asimismo, resaltó la importancia de que el nuevo espacio pueda integrarse a laestrategia interministerial Escuela Abierta y Activa,que promueve la apertura de los centros educativos públicos durante los fines de semana para desarrollar actividadesdeportivas, culturales, recreativas y de formación ciudadana. “Un techado como el que inauguramos hoy no es solo infraestructura para las actividades escolares; es la condición física que hace posible que Escuela Abierta y Activa llegue a Guayacanal”,afirmó. El funcionario exhortó a la comunidad educativa y a las familias a cuidar y aprovechar la obra, al considerar que la escuela pública constituye unpatrimonio de toda la comunidad. Wanda Isabel Santana Vásquez, en representación de los estudiantes, expresó que este es undía especial para Guayacanal, al contar con un nuevo espacio donde podrán desarrollar sus talentos, practicar deportes y fortalecer valores. Exhortó a sus compañeros acuidar la cancha y aprovecharlacon responsabilidad, para mantener en alto el nombre de la Escuela Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez. El padre Rafael Cuello, de la parroquia Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, elevó unaemotiva oración de bendiciónpor la nueva obra, pidiendo a Dios que proteja a los estudiantes, docentes, familias y a toda la comunidad de Guayacanal que hará uso de este espacio para eldeporte, la educación, la cultura y la sana convivencia.
