Gobierno inicia construcción de obras estratégicas en la frontera norte para fortalecer la seguridad y el desarrollo
Border Area.- The Dominican Government this Saturday gave the first order for the construction of a set of strategic works in the northern border area of the country, as part of the Comprehensive Border Development, Security and Infrastructure Strategy “Strong Border”, an initiative promoted by President Luis Abinader to strengthen the presence of the State, consolidate national security and promote the economic and social development of border communities.
The activity was headed by the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre (ERD), who were accompanied by local authorities, the commander general of the Army of the Dominican Republic, the general director of Migration, the executive director of Border Development and representatives of the institutions that make up the inter-institutional effort to strengthen the border.
The works include the construction of the Tilory National Market, the reconstruction of the Guayajayuco ditch and the construction of new access controls and border control detachments on the International Highway, projects designed to improve connectivity, organize commercial exchange, strengthen territorial control and increase the operational capabilities of the State in this important area of the country.
During the event, the authorities highlighted that these investments are part of the firm commitment of President Luis Abinader's government to transform the border through a comprehensive vision that combines security, infrastructure, economic development and well-being for its inhabitants.
The Minister of Defense expressed that these works constitute an essential component of the “Strong Border” strategy, by simultaneously contributing to the strengthening of national sovereignty, the increase in institutional presence and the creation of conditions that favor economic growth and the quality of life of border communities.
In that sense, he pointed out that the new Tilory National Market will allow the organization and modernization of a commercial exchange space that for decades has operated informally, providing adequate facilities for producers and merchants, better sanitary conditions, greater security and more efficient control of commercial activities in the area.
Likewise, he highlighted that the reconstruction of the Guayajayuco speed bump, complemented by the bridge built by the Ministry of Public Works over the Artibonito River, will guarantee permanent land communication for that community, reducing its vulnerability to river flooding, facilitating access to essential services and strengthening the response capacity of State agencies.
Likewise, he highlighted that the new access controls and border control detachments will strengthen the supervision and surveillance capabilities of the International highway, optimizing the control of the transit of people and goods, reinforcing security and supporting the work carried out by the Armed Forces and the other institutions responsible for border management.
The authorities agreed that these works represent a strategic investment for the sustainable development of the border, by integrating modern infrastructure, greater security, connectivity and opportunities for the economic growth of the region.
With these actions, the Dominican Government continues to advance in the execution of the “Strong Border” strategy, reaffirming its commitment to the protection of national sovereignty and to the construction of a more secure, organized, productive and prosperous border for the benefit of all Dominicans.

Durante el acto, las autoridades destacaron que estas inversiones forman parte del firme compromiso del gobierno delpresidente Luis Abinaderde transformar la frontera mediante una visión integral que combineseguridad, infraestructura, desarrollo económico y bienestarpara sus habitantes. El ministro de Defensa expresó que estas obras constituyen un componente esencial de la estrategia “Frontera Fuerte”, al contribuir simultáneamente al fortalecimiento de lasoberanía nacional, al incremento de la presencia institucional y a la creación de condiciones que favorezcan elcrecimiento económico y la calidad de vidade las comunidades fronterizas. En ese sentido, señaló que el nuevo Mercado Nacional de Tilorypermitiráorganizar y modernizarun espacio deintercambio comercialque durante décadas ha operado de manera informal, proporcionando instalaciones adecuadas para productores y comerciantes, mejores condiciones sanitarias, mayor seguridad y uncontrol más eficientede las actividades comerciales en la zona. Asimismo, destacó que la reconstrucción del badén de Guayajayuco, complementada con elpuenteque construye elMinisterio de Obras Públicassobre elrío Artibonito,garantizará una comunicación terrestre permanente para esa comunidad, reduciendo su vulnerabilidad ante las crecidas del río, facilitando elacceso a servicios esencialesy fortaleciendo lacapacidad de respuestade los organismos del Estado.
