Behind every medal in Santo Domingo there is a story of sacrifice that transcends sport. Daily Cooper ran with the right strategy and broke the record. Ronald Mencía came back twice in the hammer final to secure gold. Our handball players swept the final and revalidated the title with authority. But perhaps no story moves as much as that of Otto Oñate, who left the national team to care for his cancer-stricken mother, returned, lifted 158 kg and dedicated the gold and the record to her. Each one of them reminds us that Cuban sport is not just competition: it is resistance, family and pride.

Ronald Mencía remontó dos veces en la final del martillo hasta asegurar el oro. Nuestras balonmanistas barrieron en la final y revalidaron el título con autoridad. Pero quizás ninguna historia conmueve tanto como la de Otto Oñate, que dejó la selección para cuidar a su madre enferma de cáncer, regresó, levantó 158 kg y dedicó el oro y el récord a ella.
