Ministerio de Agricultura e Indomet firman acuerdo para fortalecer la gestión agroclimática del país
SantoDomingo.–With the objective of strengthening climate risk management, improving agricultural planning and providing producers with timely tools to face the effects of climate variability, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) signed an interinstitutional cooperation agreement.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme, and the general director of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), Gloria Ceballos, who reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to work in a coordinated manner to integrate precision meteorological and hydrological information into the planning of the national agricultural sector.
As the central axis of this alliance, both institutions will promote the development and strengthening of the Agroclimatic Roundtables at the regional and local level. These spaces bring together technicians, meteorologists, extension workers and producers to analyze climate perspectives, evaluate possible impacts on crops and define agronomic recommendations adapted to the conditions of each productive area.
The authorities highlighted that the increasing climate variability requires permanent coordination between State institutions to protect agricultural production, strengthen food security and reduce losses caused by droughts, heavy rains, high temperatures and other extreme events.
Among the main commitments assumed by both institutions are:
- The preparation and dissemination of newsletters and specialized agroclimatic information to guide the planting, management and harvesting of the main crops.
- The continuous training of producers, technicians and agricultural inspectors in the interpretation and use of meteorological information for decision making.
- The strengthening and expansion of the Agroclimatic Roundtables in the different regions of the country as mechanisms for dialogue, coordination and early response to climate risks.
- The exchange of technical and scientific information that contributes to the design of public policies aimed at a more resilient agriculture.
With this agreement, the Ministry of Agriculture and Indomet consolidate a strategic alliance to strengthen the resilience of the Dominican countryside, promote smarter and more sustainable agriculture, and improve the response capacity of the agricultural sector to the challenges of climate change and climate variability.

Entre los principales compromisos asumidos por ambas instituciones figuran: - La elaboración y difusión deboletines e información agroclimática especializadapara orientar las labores de siembra, manejo y cosecha de los principales cultivos. - Lacapacitación continuade productores, técnicos e inspectores agrícolas en la interpretación y uso de información meteorológica para la toma de decisiones. - Elfortalecimiento y expansiónde las Mesas Agroclimáticas en las diferentes regiones del país como mecanismos dediálogo, coordinación y respuesta tempranafrente a los riesgos climáticos. - El intercambio deinformación técnica y científicaque contribuya al diseño de políticas públicas orientadas a una agriculturamás resiliente. Con este acuerdo, el Ministerio de Agricultura y elIndometconsolidan unaalianza estratégicapara fortalecer laresilienciadel campo dominicano, promover una agricultura másinteligente y sostenible, y mejorar la capacidad de respuesta del sector agropecuario frente a los desafíos delcambio climático y la variabilidad climática.
