President Hakainde Hichilema, has reminded businesses that the country’s economic turnaround must be felt in household budgets, not just in national statistics.

According to a statement from State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, the President pointed out that electricity supply has stabilised, fuel costs have dropped, inflation has eased, and the kwacha has held firm. He credited these outcomes to disciplined fiscal management and the determination of citizens.

Yet, despite a bumper harvest and falling operational costs, President Hichilema observed that transport fares, food prices, and other everyday expenses remained stubbornly high. He has argued that if Zambia is to remain a free‑market economy, then market players must also shoulder the responsibility of passing on benefits to consumers.

The President believes the newly introduced 24‑hour economy will further enhance productivity, strengthen the recovery, and ultimately reduce the cost of living. He has emphasised that government’s role in steering the economy is continuous, guided by discipline and sound policy choices.
