President Hichilema Pledges Infrastructure and Growth Boost for Eastern Province Districts
President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to driving socio‑economic transformation across Eastern Province, unveiling major infrastructure, agricultural, and public safety initiatives during community engagements in Kasenengwa, Chipangali, and Mambwe districts.
Addressing residents at Kasenengwa School Grounds, President Hichilema pledged to upgrade the strategic Msoro Road, which connects Chipata, Kasenengwa, Malambo, and Mkaika, to bituminous standard. He also promised to construct a local skills training college, expand telecommunications coverage, connect more homes to the national power grid, and build new dams to strengthen irrigation for farmers. UPND Kasenengwa Parliamentary Candidate Levison Ziwa and Council Chairperson Candidate Lucky Ng’ona assured the President of decisive electoral support, citing visible improvements in the region. They were joined by Resolute Party President Martin Phiri, alliance partner Miles Sampa, and former Agriculture Minister Eustarckio Kazonga, who all emphasised the need for national unity and continuity in execution.
In Chipangali’s Mafuta area, the President declared the district a designated zone for rapid growth, noting that the recent delimitation creating two constituencies would unlock direct funding for local projects. He pledged to establish a specialized youth vocational center to boost agricultural output, construct Chiefs’ palaces, and upgrade feeder roads to streamline commercial transport. UPND Chipangali East Parliamentary Candidate Andrew Lubusha welcomed the commitments, thanking the Head of State for achievements already delivered, including the construction of a mini‑hospital, while urging voters to retain the current government to safeguard these gains.
Concluding his tour in Mambwe District, President Hichilema addressed urgent local challenges, assuring residents that concrete measures were being implemented to curb the human‑animal conflicts that have claimed lives in the area. He committed to the full rehabilitation of the Chipata–Mfuwe road and, in a major policy announcement, directed the immediate absorption of all local volunteer health workers into the public service payroll, recognising their broad community reach. He urged Malambo voters to reject opposition candidates with poor past delivery records and to support sustained momentum under his administration.
