Al-Wahda crowned Syrian basketball champions for fourth consecutive season
Aleppo, Aug. 6 (SANA)Al-Wahdaclinched theSyrian Men’s Basketball League titlefor the current season after defeating hosts Ahli Aleppo 90-62 on Wednesday atAl-Shahbaa Sports Hall in Aleppo,securing the best-of-five championship series 3-1.
The victory earned Al-Wahda their fourth consecutive league title, after recording three wins against one for Ahli Aleppo in the championship series.
Al-Wahda produced one of their strongest performances of the season, particularly on the defensive end, while their foreign players excelled in scoring from long and mid-range. They finished the first half with a 44-31 lead.
The visitors maintained their dominance in both offense and defense during the third and fourth quarters, while Ahli Aleppo were without foreign player Landers Nolley, who missed the game because of illness.
Foreign playerZach Loftonwas unable to make his usual impact as Al-Wahda’s defensive strategy effectively limited his scoring opportunities. Al-Wahda closed out the game with a commanding 28-point margin, winning 90-62.
Al-Wahda won the opening game of the finals 82-75, beforeAhli Alepporesponded with a 106-70 victory in Game Two. Al-Wahda regained the advantage by winning Game Three 82-76, before sealing the championship with Wednesday’s victory.
Under the competition format, the first team to win three games in the best-of-five championship series is crownedSyrian Men’s Basketball League champion.
