Cairo, Aug. 5 (SANA)Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam discussed by phone on Tuesday the latest developments inLebanonand ongoing negotiations with Israel, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

During the call, Abdelatty reaffirmedEgypt‘s support for Lebanon amid current challenges and reiterated Cairo’s position calling for the complete withdrawal ofIsraeli forcesfrom Lebanese territory. He said any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity constitutes a serious breach of international law and a violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the importance of supporting Lebanese state institutions, particularly the Lebanese Army, to enable them to carry out their responsibilities in extending state authority and sovereignty across the country.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s continued support for Lebanon and its institutions, citing the close relations between the two countries and the importance of strengthening Lebanon’s security and stability.

For his part, Salam praised Egypt’s continued support for the Lebanese state and its institutions, stressing the importance of maintaining coordination and consultations with Cairo on issues of mutual interest.

In an interview with Reuters in June, Salam stressed the need for Lebanon to regain authority over decisions on war and peace and called on all Lebanese parties to fulfill their commitments to ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon.
