President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed participated in the Five Million Trees Planting Programme held in AA. Ukulhas this evening.

The President and First Lady each planted a neem tree as part of the event. Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla also took part.

A total of 19 trees were planted, including coconut palms, fish poison trees, green buttonwood trees and bullet wood trees, in addition to the neem trees.

The Five Million Trees Planting Programme, a presidential pledge, was launched by the President and First Lady on World Environment Day 2024. Since its launch, 1,830,599 trees have been planted under the initiative, which reflects the Government's commitment to protecting the Maldives' fragile ecosystems and mitigating the effects of climate change for the benefit of present and future generations.

The President and First Lady were joined at the ceremony by senior Government officials and other state dignitaries.
