Brazil asks Argentine ambassador to leave amid diplomatic dispute

Buenos Aires, Aug. 5 (SANA)Argentina’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that it had been notified by theBrazilian governmentof its request forArgentine Ambassador to BrazilGuillermo Daniel Raimondi to leave the country, adding that Brazil would reduce its diplomatic representation in Buenos Aires to the level of chargé d’affaires.

According to AFP, Brazil’s decision followed remarks made byArgentine President Javier MileiaboutBrazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in which Milei repeated accusations and personal criticisms during a television interview broadcast on Sunday.

The dispute follows a speech delivered by Milei in Brazil last month, during which he expressed support for right-wing politician Flavio Bolsonaro, a rival of Lula in the presidential election. The move prompted Brasília to recall its ambassador to Argentina for consultations.

Argentine authorities sought to downplay the dispute, saying it was linked to ideological and political differences between the leaderships of the two countries.

Relations betweenBrazil and Argentinahave experienced repeated tensions since President Javier Milei took office in late 2023, amid sharp political differences with Brazil’s left-wing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
