Washington, Aug. 5 (SANA)The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs(OCHA)warned on Wednesday of increasing Israeli attacks affecting schools and learning spaces inthe Gaza Strip, stressing that such facilities must be protected under international humanitarian law.UN Deputy SpokespersonFarhan Haqsaid OCHA had documented a student being injured by gunfire inside a classroom set up in a tent in Gaza City. He added that Israeli forces had demolished the last remaining school in a compound that included four schools, warning of further disruption to education in the Gaza Strip.Haq said UN partners reported that tents sheltering around 12 families who had sought refuge at the school were destroyed, and that concrete barriers were placed nearby. He said the UN viewed the measures as an indication of expanding areas subject to access restrictions.He stressed that schools and learning facilities must remain safe and protected environments in accordance with international humanitarian law.The Palestinian Cabineton Tuesday warned of escalating Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, citing continued strikes and casualties, including women and children, as well as attacks affecting health and humanitarian facilities. It said the developments represented violations of international law and declared ceasefire understandings.
