Capitals, Aug.5 (SANA)Astronomyenthusiasts worldwideare awaiting a totalsolar eclipseon Aug. 12, 2026, as the celestial event is expected to be visible across parts ofEuropeand the North Atlantic, while other regions will observe a partial eclipse.

According to Space.com, a website specializing inspace and astronomy news, the path of totality will pass over Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain. The report published on Aug. 3 said most of Europe will witness a partial eclipse, with the extent of solar obscuration varying according to geographical location and reaching around 90 percent or more in some areas.

The eclipse will begin during daylight hours and last about one hour and 50 minutes. It will reach its peak around one hour after its beginning before gradually ending, with areas along the eclipse path expected to experience reduced daylight and lower temperatures.

Astronomy expertsadvised observers not to look directly at the sun during the eclipse without approved protection. They recommended using eclipse glasses that comply with the ISO 12312-2 standard or relying on indirect viewing methods, including pinhole projection, to protect the retina from potential damage.

The Aug. 12, 2026 total solar eclipse is expected to be among Europe’s notable astronomical events in the coming years because of the wide area from which it can be observed and the passage of the path of totality over several populated regions.
