Kyiv, Aug. 5 (SANA)A large Russian missile attack on Kyiv and surrounding areas killed at least 17 people and injured more than 40,Ukrainianofficials said on Wednesday, as Moscow intensified its air campaign against the Ukrainian capital.

Ukrainian officials saidRussialaunched dozens ofballistic missilesovernight, damaging warehouses, logistics facilities and other infrastructure. Several explosions shook the region, while fires illuminated the night sky acrossKyiv, which has faced missile attacks every few days in recent weeks.

Ukrainian PresidentVolodymyr Zelenskyysaid shortages of air defense interceptors had again contributed to civilian casualties and urged allies to provide additional systems to counter ballistic missiles.

“Ballistic missile interceptors would have saved the lives of those killed today,” Zelenskyy said, adding that delays or reluctance to provide such systems directly contributed to the scale of casualties and destruction.

Zelenskyy said the main targets included warehouses, infrastructure facilities and railway stations. He added that construction material warehouses and other civilian logistics facilities were damaged.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces had targeted seven logistics centers in Kyiv and surrounding areas, which it said were used to store and distribute dual-use goods and drone components.

Separately, Ukraine struck a logistics center belonging to online retailer Wildberries overnight, continuing a series of attacks that the company said have damaged more than 10 of its warehouses in recent weeks.
