Damascus, Aug. 4 (SANA)Syria’sNational Commission for Missing Personsannounced Tuesday that it had determined the fate of Bassam Bahra and his son Samih, who disappeared in Damascus on April 28, 2013, concluding that they were killed after being detained by members of the deposed regime’s security services.

In a statement published on its Telegram channel, the Commission said the findings followed investigation, verification and information-gathering efforts conducted in coordination with theMinistry of Interior. It said the father and son were taken by members of the deposed regime’s security apparatus to a house in Damascus, where they were subsequently killed.

The Commission said the family had been informed of the findings in accordance with established procedures that respect its right to know the truth while preserving the dignity of the victims.

It added that efforts to locate the victims’ remains would continue in coordination with the relevant authorities to recover them, verify their identities and return them to the family for a dignified burial.

The Commission extended its deepest condolences to the family, acknowledging the hardship of losing both a father and his son and the years of uncertainty and searching they endured. It reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to determine the fate of all missing persons in Syria, uphold the dignity of victims and guarantee the right of their families to know the truth.

The National Commission for Missing Persons is an independent body established underPresidential DecreeNo. 19 of 2025. It is responsible for collecting and verifying information and data and developing an institutional framework to determine the fate of missing and forcibly disappeared persons in Syria, in cooperation with national and international partners, while adhering to the principles of independence, data protection and respect for the dignity of victims and their families.
