Syria opens airport store for products made by women and people with disabilities

Damascus, Aug. 4 (SANA)Syria’sMinistry of Social Affairs and Laboron Tuesday opened a retail outlet atDamascus International Airportto showcase products made bySyrian womenand people with disabilities, in a move aimed at supporting economic inclusion and expanding market access for local producers.

Named “Hakaya,” the store offers handicrafts and other locally made products created by women entrepreneurs and people with disabilities as part of the ministry’s economic empowerment initiatives.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Kabawat, Minister of Information Khaled Zaarour, Minister of Tourism Mazen al-Salhani, and Omar Hosari, head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport.

Speaking to SANA, Kabawat said the initiative reflects the ministry’s strategy of shifting from traditional social assistance toward sustainable economic empowerment.

She said the ministry aims to create decent employment opportunities for women and people with disabilities to help strengthen their economic independence and participation in the labor market.

Kabawat added that the ministry plans to expand the “Hakaya” concept to airports and cities across Syria as part of broader efforts to support women-led businesses and improve economic opportunities for people with disabilities.kA.ABD
