State House, Banjul, 4th August 2026:The Speaker of Lesotho's Parliament, Hon. Tiohang Sekhamane, commended The Gambia’s practice in accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This follows the delegation’s visit to The Gambia to learn from the best practices of the Barrow administration in development financing.

The delegation, comprising members from the Parliament of the Kingdom of Lesotho and representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), met with His Excellency President Adama Barrow at State House following their engagements with the Ministry of Public Service which is responsible for implementing the Programme for Accelerating Community Development (PACD), under the 'Yiriwa' blueprint.

During the meeting, Hon. Sekhamane expressed that the Kingdom of Lesotho is looking up to The Gambia as a model, particularly in implementing people-centred social projects that directly impact vulnerable citizens. He attested that the achievements are a result of President Barrow’s leadership, and his commitment to implementing impactful projects such as access to water, electricity and increased productivity.

President Barrow emphasised that his administration’s mandate is to provide Gambians with their needs, describing it as a social contract. He highlighted key takeaways for the delegation including trade, national security, and domestic resource mobilisation which has recorded a 218% increase over the years and is being used to advance the implementation of national priorities in The Gambia.

The Gambian leader thanked the United Nations and its sister agencies, and extended his regards to His Majesty the King of Lesotho.

The visit is part of South-South Cooperation, African solidarity and shared development aspirations.
