Damascus, Aug. 4 (SANA)Syria andBelarusdiscussed on Tuesday ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in thetransport sector, including roads, railways, land transport and related industries, the Syrian Transport Ministry said.

Transport Minister Yarub Badr toldBelarusian Ambassador to SyriaYuri Sluka during their meeting thatSyriais ready to develop cooperation with Belarus and benefit from its expertise, particularly inroad infrastructure, railway systems, land transport and related industries.

Badr said the Ministry of Transport is currently overseeing several key areas, including land transport, roads, railways, vehicle registration and technical inspections, driving licenses, and the movement of goods within Syria and with other countries.

He also referred to a bilateral agreement signed in 2004 regulating international road transport of passengers and goods between Syria and Belarus, saying the ministry is prepared to review the agreement and introduce amendments or additions that serve the interests of both countries.

For his part, Sluka said Belarus is interested in strengthening cooperation with Syria across various fields, including transport. He added that the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communications is interested in expanding cooperation with its Syrian counterpart.

Sluka said Belarus is ready to exchange expertise and cooperate in the manufacturing of trucks, tractors, buses and electric buses, as well as road engineering and bridge construction. He also highlighted Belarusian experience in road infrastructure and transit transport.

The two sides agreed to continue coordination on holding an online meeting, exchange a draft agenda and renew an invitation for a Belarusian delegation to visit Syria.

They also stressed the importance of continuing bilateral meetings on the sidelines of international conferences and events to enhance communication and exchange expertise, particularly ininfrastructureandroads, as Syria seeks to develop its transport sector during recovery and reconstruction efforts.kA.ABD
