5.6-magnitude earthquake strikes near Egypt’s Suez; no damage reported

Cairo, Aug. 3 (SANA)A 5.6-magnitudeearthquakestruck north of the Egyptian city of Suez early Monday, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage, according toEgypt’s National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG).

The institute said the earthquake’s epicenter was located at 30.3212°N, 32.6791°E, about 41 kilometers (25 miles) north of Suez and 111 kilometers (69 miles) southeast of Port Said, near the northern entrance to theSuez Canal. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), according to data posted by the institute on X.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage following the tremor.

The earthquake follows another seismic event in April, when a 5.7-magnitude quake struck north of the Mediterranean city of Marsa Matrouh in northwestern Egypt without causing casualties or property damage.
