Damascus, Aug. 3 (SANA)TheArab Calligraphyand Arts House Association launched its sixth annualFine ArtsFestival on Sunday with a group exhibition inDamascusfeaturing works by 32 artists from across Syria.

Held at the Social Forum Association Gallery, the exhibition featured around 60 works spanning painting, sculpture and Arabic calligraphy. The collection reflected a range of artistic movements, including realism, expressionism, impressionism, abstraction and calligraphic art, highlighting the diversity ofSyria‘s contemporary visual arts.

Reem Kubtan, chairwoman of the Arab Calligraphy and Arts House Association, said the festival was organized this year in cooperation with the Social Forum Association to strengthen collaboration among associations affiliated with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, encourage the exchange of artistic expertise and support cultural activities.

She said the exhibition brought together works by association members and guest artists from several Syrian provinces. The festival’s second day was set to feature a live mixed-media painting workshop, followed by awards for the three best works, aimed at encouraging emerging artists.

Among the participants was Aleppo-based artist Khaldoun Al-Ahmad, whose work centers on Arabic calligraphy.

“In every painting, I seek forms that reflect the greatness of the Arabic letter, allowing it to become the focal point of the work. It offers flexibility and expressive freedom while creating a visual rhythm that highlights the beauty of Arabic calligraphy within the composition,” he said.

Artist Ali Saeed of Hasakah said his contribution drew inspiration from the cultural heritage of Syria’s Jazira region. The work portrays the Syrian woman as a symbol of identity and belonging and highlights the region’s rich cultural traditions.

The sixth annual Fine Arts Festival will continue for two weeks with exhibitions, workshops and cultural activities aimed at supporting Syria’s visual arts community, encouraging young talent and fostering dialogue between artists and the public.
