SantoDomingo.-The Dominican Republic continues to consolidate progress in fundamental areas for the development of the country, with actions that strengthen education, food security, public health and national sports. This was highlighted by the director of the Directorate of Government Strategy and Communication (Diecom), Félix Reyna, during the presentation of the Weekly Summary, in which he reviewed the main initiatives promoted by the government of President Luis Abinader for the benefit of the population.

Preparations advance for the 2026-2027 school year

Félix Reyna reported that the Ministry of Education continues to execute an extensive comprehensive preparation plan for the start of the 2026-2027 school year, with the purpose of guaranteeing that students and teachers find the necessary conditions from the first day of classes.

As part of this process, 3,071,764 textbooks and 4,532,609 workbooks have been distributed, while the National Student Welfare Institute (INABIE) has delivered 678,925 school supplies kits, equivalent to 38% of the programming planned for the next school year.

Likewise, the School Infrastructure Directorate is developing a program to enable 1,500 new classrooms before the start of the school year in August and complete between 2,300 and 2,500 classrooms before the end of the year, thereby expanding the capacity of the educational system and improving the conditions for learning.

President Abinadera appreciates the commitment of the agricultural sector for FAO recognition

During the Weekly Summary, the director of Diecom highlighted the recognition granted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), after confirming that the Dominican Republic reduced the proportion of people suffering from undernourishment to less than 2.5% of the population, thus allowing the country to leave the Hunger Map.

President Luis Abinadera attributed this achievement to the joint work of men and women in the countryside, along with public policies aimed at strengthening national food production and improving the population's access to these products.

Among the actions promoted to support the agricultural sector are financing programs, land preparation, delivery of planting material, rehabilitation of interparcel roads, strengthening of irrigation systems, technical assistance, agricultural insurance and marketing mechanisms.

The Public Health Network demonstrates its capacity during the Central American Games

Reyna also highlighted that the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 have demonstrated the response capacity of the Public Health Network, thanks to a strengthened hospital infrastructure, specialized personnel, technology and effective coordination between institutions.

To guarantee medical care during the competition, the State arranged the entire Public Health Network, made up of more than 200 hospitals, 1,710 Primary Care Units (UNAP) and nearly 89,000 employees, in order to ensure permanent assistance for athletes, delegations, visitors and the general population.

More than 500 doctors participate in the health operations deployed in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Bonao, La Vega, Moca, Cabarete, Punta Arena and the other locations where the skills are developed, while the Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City functions as the main reference center for highly complex cases.

President Abinader recognizes Salcedo Fútbol Club for its historic championship

As part of his support for national sports, President Luis Abinader received the delegation of the Salcedo Fútbol Club at the National Palace, in recognition of the conquest of the Dominican Soccer League (LDF) championship, an achievement that strengthens the growth of soccer in the country.

During the meeting, the president congratulated the team for its effort, discipline and determination throughout the season, and reiterated the Government's commitment to continue supporting the development of football and sports infrastructure in the Hermanas Mirabal province.

The progress presented in the Weekly Summary reflects the strengthening of strategic areas for national development and the quality of life of the population, through actions that expand opportunities, improve public services and consolidate capabilities for the future of the Dominican Republic.
