Caracas, Aug. 3 (SANA)Venezuela and the Dominican Republic have agreed to begin a gradual restoration of diplomatic and consular relations, ending a two-year freeze in ties between the two countries.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia announced the agreement in a post on X, sayingVenezuelaand the Dominican Republic had formally agreed to begin a phased normalization of diplomatic and consular relations.

Under the agreement, consular services will resume in Caracas and Santo Domingo, allowing citizens of both countries to access consular assistance.

The joint plan provides for the gradual return of diplomatic delegations to their respective missions under a mutually agreed timetable.

Venezuelan media reported that the agreement followed a series of high-level technical talks. The renewed diplomatic engagement will be guided by a bilateral roadmap based on constructive dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to international law.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were severed in 2024 after theDominican Republicchallenged the outcome of Venezuela’s presidential election. The dispute led to the withdrawal of diplomatic and consular representatives and the suspension of direct consular services.
