Arab League, Iraq step up diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions

Cairo, Aug. 3 (SANA)Arab LeagueSecretary-General Nabil Fahmy and Iraqi Foreign MinisterFuad Husseindiscussed regional tensions and efforts to promote security and stability during a phone call on Monday, as regional leaders intensified diplomatic contacts aimed at preventing further escalation in theMiddle East.

According to a statement issued by the Arab League, the two officials emphasized the importance of resolving regional disputes through diplomacy and strengthening Arab cooperation to preserveregional stabilityand uphold the concept of the nation-state as a foundation for peace and security.

They also agreed to maintain close coordination and make full use of diplomatic channels to protect Arab interests while enhancing the role and mechanisms of the Arab League in addressing regional challenges.

The discussions were part of a broader wave of regional diplomatic engagement focused on containing tensions and preventing a wider conflict, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that he had canceled a planned military strike on Iran and would resume negotiations with Tehran.
