Türkiye to continue efforts for lasting regional peace

Ankara, Aug. 2 (SANA)Turkish Foreign Minister HakanFidansaid Saturday that Türkiye will continue efforts aimed at ending conflicts and establishing lasting peace in the region as part of its diplomatic initiatives to contain regional tensions.

According toTürkiye‘s Anadolu Agency, Fidan made the remarks during a phone call with Iranian Foreign MinisterAbbas Araghchi, during which the two ministers reviewed the latest developments in ongoing regional diplomatic negotiations.

The Turkish-Iranian contacts come as diplomatic activity continues amid tensions between the United States and Iran following the stalled implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed on June 18.The process has faced disagreements over security guarantees and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important routes for energy exports and global trade.

The White House said Saturday that U.S. PresidentDonald Trumpremains committed to resolving differences with Tehran through diplomacy while maintaining that Washington would respond to any Iranian attacks targeting U.S. interests.

Regional tensions have continued in recent weeks. The U.S. military announced Saturday that 30 commercial vessels had been rerouted since maritime restrictions on Iranian ports resumed on July 15, highlighting continuing concerns over navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz.
