Washington, Aug. 2 (SANA)U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he had canceled a military strike planned againstIranlater this week after receiving requests from Tehran and several Middle Eastern countries to delay military action, saying the decision was contingent on the swift conclusion of an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and eliminate Iran’s nuclear threat.

In a post on his Truth Social platform,Trumpsaid theUnited Stateshad been prepared to use what he described as its greatest military force since World War II against Iran. He said Iran and several countries in the region had asked Washington to postpone military action to allow time for negotiations on an agreement that would provide for the immediate reopening of theStrait of Hormuzand end what he called the Iranian nuclear threat.

“Based on that request, I agreed to cancel the attack, for the good of the world and for Iran’s future prosperity, provided that an agreement is reached quickly,” Trump wrote. He added that Israel shares the commitment and urged all parties to begin work on finalizing the deal.

Trump’s remarks came a day after the White House said he remained committed to pursuing diplomacy with Iran while maintaining that the United States would continue responding to any Iranian attacks.

His announcement also followed a CBS News report, citing sources, that said the United States and Israel had prepared plans for strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure over the weekend.
