Syria, Germany discuss cooperation on humanitarian issues

Damascus, Aug. 2 (SANA)Head of theNational Commission for Missing Persons, Mohammad Reda Jalkhi, held talks on Sunday withGermany’s chargé d’affaires in Damascus,Marcus Hicken, on ways to enhance cooperation and coordination on humanitarian issues of mutual interest, particularly those related to the issue of missing persons.

During the meeting, Jalkhi outlined the Commission’s principal responsibilities and the efforts it is undertaking to address the issue of missing persons.

He stressed that families’ right to know the fate of their missing relatives is a fundamental humanitarian and legal right, adding that the Commission is working to establish an institutional approach based on the principles of justice, transparency and respect for human rights.

Jalkhi also reiterated the importance of partnerships with friendly countries and international organizations to exchange expertise and enhance national capacities, contributing to uncovering the truth, delivering justice for victims, and safeguarding the rights of the families of missing persons.
