Vicepresidenta Raquel Peña encabeza graduaciones que impulsan oportunidades para la juventud y fortalecen las instituciones
Santiago.–The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, led two graduation ceremonies this Sunday in Santiago that reflect the commitment of President Luis Abinader's government to training as a tool to expand opportunities, strengthen institutions and contribute to the development of the country.
In a first activity, the vice president presided over the thirteenth ordinary graduation of the 14-24 Opportunity program, promoted by the Social Policy Cabinet, in which 1,032 young people received their certificates after completing their technical-professional training processes.
During the event, Raquel Peña highlighted that this initiative provides youth with tools to access greater opportunities for training, employment and personal development.
"From the government of President Luis Abinader, through the Social Policy Cabinet, we have assumed the commitment that no young person be left behind due to lack of support. Because we firmly believe that the best social policy is one that transforms lives permanently," said the vice president.
For her part, the coordinator of the Social Policy Cabinet, Geanilda Vásquez, highlighted that each new promotion of Oportunidad 14-24 strengthens the Adaptive Social Protection System by facilitating the social and economic inclusion of young people in vulnerable conditions.
The graduates belong to 33 operational centers in the Northeast, Cibao Sur and Cibao Norte regions, corresponding to the provinces of Samaná, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Hermanas Mirabal, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Santiago Rodríguez, Monte Cristi, Dajabón and Valverde.
During their training process they received training in areas such as tourism, hospitality, gastronomy, technology, commerce, electricity and services, among other specialties aimed at strengthening their skills for job placement and entrepreneurship.
With this promotion, the Oportunidad 14-24 program reaches 9,542 young graduates in the Cibao region, consolidating it as one of the main government strategies to promote educational inclusion, training for work and the employability of adolescents and young people in vulnerable situations.
Subsequently, the vice president led the graduation of 162 new agents from the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), who will join the immigration control work in different provinces of Cibao and the border area, as part of the process of institutional strengthening of that entity.
During the event, the general director of Immigration, Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester (ARD), reported that the institution continues to strengthen its operational capacity through a reorganization process that has allowed it to significantly expand its corps of agents and its intelligence, planning and immigration control capabilities.
He explained that, since October 2024, the DGM went from having 302 agents, of which 235 carried out operational tasks, to a staff of 1,388 agents, including 1,272 dedicated to immigration control and another 116 assigned to intelligence, investigations, internal affairs and legal support.
Likewise, he indicated that in the last 22 months the institution has deported 704,142 foreigners with irregular immigration status, as a result of strengthening its operations.
Lee Ballester also highlighted that the institutional transformation process incorporates a recruitment and selection system based on academic, physical, psychological, clinical and psychometric evaluations, along with a training program focused on respect for due process and human rights.
He added that this strengthening has also allowed us to expand planning, intelligence and technological infrastructure capabilities, including a Command and Control Center for monitoring migration operations at airports, ports and border points.
Accompanying the vice president were the general commander of the Dominican Republic Navy, Vice Admiral Juan Bienvenido Crisóstomo Martínez (ARD); the provincial governor of Santiago, Rosa Santos; the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez; Senator Daniel Rivera; the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, and the director of the Tobacco Institute, Iván Hernández Guzmán.
Also present were the deputy director general of the National Police, General Esteban Figuereo García; Colonel Freddy Antonio Marte Acosta (ERD), military coordinator of the DGM; Pilot Brigadier General Juan Carlos Vicente Pérez (FARD), director of Migration Intelligence; Army Colonels Manuel Antonio Carrasco Guerrero, director of Immigration Control, and Héctor de Jesús Ovalle, director of Planning; as well as Colonel Belkis Asiatico, (PN), Director of Human Resources.
With these graduations, the government of President Luis Abinader continues to promote initiatives that expand opportunities for youth and strengthen the capacities of the institutions responsible for serving the population.
