Speaking at AK Party Istanbul Provincial Advisory Council Event, President Erdoğan singled out urban transformation as one of Istanbul’s top issues, and said: “Istanbul is a city where unplanned and unhealthy urbanization is widespread. To us all, strengthening Istanbul’s building stock is a matter of national security that transcends politics.”

President and Justice and Development (AK) Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at AK Party Istanbul Provincial Advisory Council Event.

“At the present, along with the traffic, which you have to deal with every day, urban transformation is one of Istanbul’s top problems. Istanbul is a city where unplanned and unhealthy urbanization is widespread. To us all, strengthening Istanbul’s building stock is a matter of national security that transcends politics,” President Erdoğan said.

Accordingly, President Erdoğan noted, the government is carrying out one out of every two urban transformation projects in Istanbul at the moment. “Rapidly transforming the risky structures across Istanbul, we are making Istanbul safer. So far, we have renovated nearly 1 million independent units in Istanbul. ‘With the Half from Us’ project, we are transforming 377 thousand houses. We are renewing Istanbul’s building stock not only with urban transformation but also with our social housing units for low-income citizens. With the ‘Türkiye, the Homeowner’ project, for which we have already held the draw and launched construction, we are adding 100 thousand social housing units to Istanbul.”
