Presidente Abinader asiste a toma de posesión del nuevo obispo de la Diócesis de La Vega, Andrés Napoleón Romero Cárdenas
La Vega.-President Luis Abinadera attended the inauguration of the new bishop of the Diocese of La Vega, Andrés Napoleón Romero Cárdenas, elected by His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, and who until now, served for more than 11 years as bishop of Barahona.
The Eucharist, celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in the city of La Vega, was presided over by the apostolic nuncio, Archbishop Piergiorgio Bertold, who thanked the president for his presence at this solemn event, which is also a sign of his constant support for the pastoral service.
New bishop expresses his openness to dialogue and collaboration with authorities and other sectors of the population
After being installed as the new bishop, Romero Cárdenas expressed his desire to work for a church that is close and open to dialogue and collaboration, without political flags or divisions, with the authorities, educational institutions, productive sectors, community and social organizations to achieve common well-being.
"In the midst of so many messages, interests and testimonials, our people need a word that helps them discern. The Church must offer the holiness of the Gospel with humility and firmness, respecting everyone and remaining faithful to the truth," he expressed.
In his first homily at the head of the Diocese of La Vega, he also expressed his intentions to always seek to preserve religious and cultural traditions and the values that sustain and give identity to people, such as life, family, freedom, justice, peace, education, human work, care for the most vulnerable and the protection of natural resources.
"I arrive with deep respect and gratitude. With a heart willing to learn and be a believer."
Likewise, he highlighted as a pastoral priority the formation of a team to accompany young people, made up of those responsible for the pastoral care already present, legal pastoral care, vocational pastoral care and university pastoral care, to develop different formative spaces for living faith.
Monsignor José Amable Durán Tineo, apostolic administrator who was in charge of the Diocese of La Vega, expressed with joy that today they dress up as a party and that the parishioners who have made this diocese alive, dynamic, mature and cultivated in faith, open their arms and hearts with humility to the new bishop.
The Diocese of La Vega encompasses the provinces of La Vega, Hermanas Mirabal, Monseñor Nouel and Sánchez Ramírez, as well as 63 parishes and more than 120 priests.
Along with the president, the Minister of Sports Kelvin Cruz and the governor Luisa Altagracia Jiménez Cabreja, also participated in the inauguration of Andrés Napoleón Romero Cárdenas, as the new bishop of this diocese.

Asimismo, resaltó comoprioridad pastoral, la conformación de un equipo deacompañamiento a los jóvenes,integrado por los responsables de la pastoral ya presente,pastoral jurídica, pastoral vocacional y pastoral universitaria, para desarrollar diferentes espacios formativos devivencia de fe.
